MENA-OECD Working Group on Corporate Governance has supported the development of sound corporate governance frameworks and policies. An impact story in Jordan published on the OECD website Group of professional Jordanian women in establishing a non-profit association Women on Boards (Jordan), which aims to promote women’s access to leadership in various enterprises in the public and private sector with the supportof Norwegian founder and CEO of FutureBoards, Ms. Turid Solvang supported .

In response to an invitation from Al-Asfari Institute

In response to an invitation from Al-Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the AUB in collaboration with the Forum of the Lebanese Female Researchers, Dr. Hanan Ibrahim, one of the founders of Jordanian WOBs and an associate professor at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, participated in the symposium entitled “Monitoring and Documenting Gender Studies in Arab Centers and Universities” which was held on 13 and 14 June, 2019 in Beirut. Dr. Hanan presented a paper on her own experience as Head of the MA Program of Women’s Studies at the University of Jordan and presented the stages that the program underwent till it became a center that has many departments. She also dealt with many issues by way of enhancing the role of the center in the empowerment of Jordanian women at a practical level.

Ms. Iman Al-Damen the chairwoman of WOBs JO and a member of the MENA-OECD Working Group on Corporate Governance, participated in the launch of the 2019 Working Group Report on Corporate Governance in MENA: “Building a Framework for Competitiveness and Growth” at the conference which was held in Paris France. During the panel discussion on improving the gender balance in corporate leadership Mrs. Al-Damen Presented the Chapter of Achieving Gender Balance in Corporate Leadership that found the representation of women on the boards of the largest 142 public companies in MENA remains modest, at 4.8% of total voting board seats (60 of 1 258 seats).

On the occasion of International Women’s Day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8 ) Ms. AL-Damen joint the first time a “Ring the Bell” ceremony to raise awareness of the pivotal role the private sector can play in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. The event presented the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), a joint initiative of UN Women and the UN Global Compact which provides concrete guidelines for businesses on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community. At the event, Ms. May Makhzoumi, joined Ms. Iman Al Damen, Chair of the Women on Boards Association in Jordan and Ms. Gina Lund, Director General of Skills in Norway in an inspiring discussion about their personal experience under the theme of “Breaking the Glass Ceiling”.
